Job Description


Responsibilities: Opto-Mechanical design engineer/Opto-Mechanical sub-tier integrated product team (IPT) leader. Responsible for the technical design, budget, and schedule for a major part of the overall Opto-Mechanical hardware effort for a complex space sensor now under development for the Air Force and NASA. Manage the existing hardware sub-tier IPT from engineering development model (EDU), already in progress, through the remainder of the design/development phase as well as manage the procurement, assembly, and test of the opto-mechanical components & subassemblies for a series of flight instruments to be delivered throughout a multi-year contract.

The ideal candidate will possess


Required Skills:
At least 6 years of experience as an Opto-mechanical engineer and responsible engineering authority (REA) on space flight hardware programs. Experience with optical systems, mechanisms, mechanical structures, and tooling. Strong familiarity with mechanisms of all sorts. Working knowledge of MS Office software and Windows 2000 operating system. Familiarity with ANSI Y14.5 design standard, aerospace materials and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of opto-mechanical system design including mechanical packaging of reflective and refractive optical elements. Ability to work with optical ray trace prescriptions from entrance aperture through focal plane assembly placement. Ability to oversee and direct Opto-Mechanical design and analysis activities. Must be able to manage project budgets and schedules and be familiar with Microsoft Project and EVMS financial and schedule performance tools. Must have demonstrable communication and writing skills and ability to present extensive technical material to a variety of customers.


Desired Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Project. Working knowledge of codeV Optical design tool. Experience with stray light analysis tools such as ASAP. Experience with Mechanical 3D modeling and detail design using Pro/Engineer CAD tools and related software. Working knowledge of Pro/Engineer MCAD tools up through version 2000i. Knowledge of Pro/Intralink and Sherpa PDM. Familiarity with Pro/Mechanica, Pro/Cable, or other PTC modules. Knowledge of computer networks and file formats.
