Responsibilities: The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts and contribute to the development of high reliability/durable mechanical components and systems for space applications. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will work under consultative direction of the Specialty Engineering IPT Lead toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives where assignments are often self-initiated and will determine and pursue courses of action necessary to meet customer requirements. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions to reduce fatigue and wear. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer will represent the RMSS Section as spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs and as advisor to management and customers for mechanical components and systems. The Mechanical Reliability Engineer should be proficient in the following disciplines and processes: Knowledge of Space mechanical component technology, qualification and testing; Working familiarization with mechanical bearings, gears, seals, springs, and other electro-mechanical devices; Working knowledge of alloy, polymer, ceramic and composite materials; Reliability Block Diagrams and Systems Interfaces; Finite Element Modeling; Reliability Modeling and Prediction tool sets (Relex, Prism, Ascent, etc.); and FTA/FMECA Analysis. This position will require application of most or all of these elements.

The ideal candidate will possess


Required Skills:
Computer literate and proficient in: Microsoft Office products (especially Excel), database design & implementation (SQL, Filemaker Pro, Access). Ability to generate complex internal and customer technical reports.


Desired Skills:
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.


Typical Experience: 8-10 years

Degree: B.S.
