Job Description

Responsibilities: Job Function: Navigation Hardware REA (IMU/GPS/GEU) Mission/Purpose of Work Group The Navigation Design Department within the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineering Center maintains functional responsibility for navigation subsystem and Guidance Electronics Unit (GEU) design, analysis, integration, test, and verification efforts for the missile and projectile product lines. In association with these functional responsibilities, the GPS/IMU/Navigation Product Center maintains product authority for all navigation system applications throughout the missile and projectile product lines. This comprehensive responsibility includes turn key design, analysis, integration, test, verification, project management, production support, and supplier co-development efforts. Within this charter, the Department and the Product Center maintain and continually evolve a specific Navigation/GEU development process and integrated product team structure to ensure efficient, reliable solutions. Navigation Hardware is one of four sections within the Navigation Design Department. The Navigation Hardware group provides engineering support to programs using GEU systems with navigation subsystems such as inertial sensors, inertial measurement units (IMU), attitude referencing systems and GPS receivers for missile GNC functions. Job Description The Navigation Hardware REA (Responsible Engineering Authority) will represent the GPS/IMU/Navigation Product Center as the navigation/guidance electronics subsystem or component technologist on a weapons program. The REA shall be knowledgeable in the advanced technical principles, theories and concepts of navigation subsystems/components used in modern guidance electronics platforms. The REA will interface directly with suppliers of navigation or guidance electronics components to monitor and manage programmatic activities. Within the program organization, the individual will be viewed as the technology Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the navigation subsystem or component. The individual will be expected to work broad assignments independently within a program integrated product team (IPT) environment, reporting accomplishments to program management and customers. Assignments are often self-initiated, with the individual determining the proper course of action as well as risk mitigation activities to achieve the desired result. At times, the REA will be called upon to solve unusually complex technical problems associated with the navigation subsystem embedded within the guidance electronics architecture. Solutions to these problems typically require considerable interaction with external suppliers, cross-functional members outside of the program IPT structure as well as peer reviews by other GPS/IMU/Navigation Product Center SME’s. Erroneous decisions or recommendations by the REA may result in missed program critical milestones or objectives leading to cost overruns and schedule delinquencies as well as negatively affecting the image of the GPS/IMU/Navigation Product Center. As an advocate of the Product Center, the REA shall be responsible for extending and disseminating program knowledge in navigation subsystems or components beyond the program for applicability or alignment with Product Center enterprise objectives. This knowledge may form the basis of newly developed concepts, theories, and products leading to new business opportunities for the company.
